Harpenden III v Hertingfordbury CC 1st XI on Sat 08 May 2010 at 1.00
Hertingfordbury CC Lost By 9 Runs

Match report Harpenden won the toss and chose to bat first on one of the coldest cricketing days that any of the Hertingfordbury players could remember, including the oldest member of the team Matt Gilewicz. Scott Bambling opened the bowling and recorded tidy figures of 4-62 in a marathon 24 over spell, continuing his good comeback after missing the 2009 season. At the other end, the newcomer Tony Burton impressed again, taking 3 wickets - all bowled - catching proving difficult with the temperature close to freezing. The skipper rotated the bowlers from the pavilion end as Bambling toiled away. Martin, Beckett and Brydon coped manfully in testing bowling conditions. Harpenden reached what turned out to be a competitive total of 181.

The Hertingfordbury batsmen got off to a disastrous start and with the score at a perilous 2-3, Charlie Martin joined Dan Gronert at the crease. A terrific partnership of 125 runs followed, with Gronert combining his customary big hitting with some much needed patience and good shot selection to reach 74. Whilst it was not easy for the bowlers with a wet ball, it also was not easy to score runs with the outfield being so wet. Martin batted very well and fell 3 runs short of what would been a deserved half century. The Hertingfordbury lower order of Beckett, the injured Palmer and Bryden were unable to secure a victory and fell 10 runs short. Unfortunately in going for the victory, Hertingfordbury presented Harpenden with 30 points that the home team probably did not deserve.
