Match report I CAN DIG THE NEW BREED
So said James Brown. Then again he also said get up offa that thing, so who can you believe?
Anyway I'm referring to the Bury new boys who did us proud with a spirited rearguard action that knocked the stuffing out of a buoyant Waltham X who thought they had us finished at 80-odd for 7.

Despite it being the hottest day of the year Rosedale remembered our track and stuck us in hoping their experienced openers would bowl tight and make for an easy run chase. Things went well for them seeing off a very rusty Stone, then Ranner and Tumble, before Alex and Bullet steadied the ship for a while. The Rosedale skipper will probably regret the introduction of the slow leftie Lewis which released the pressure built up by veteran Byatt.

Never a man to turn down a buffet of any sort, Bullet tucked into a succession of full tosses to up the run rate. Alex lost concentration after looking set for a big score, knocking up a simple catch. James Dolan in his first appearance since decimalisation went soon after followed by Smurf whose lbw knocked Ranner off his Christmas card list.
Things looked bleak with only the unknown quantities of the new boys to come. We needn't have worried as Gromit Jnr, Hitchcock and Perryman threw caution to the wind, taking the attack to the bowlers and us to 1 run short of maximum batting points. Rosedale knew they'd missed an opportunity to shorten their ordeal in the sun.

In response we quickly got stuck into them with Smurf building up a lively pace and some occasional nasty bounce. Occasionally no bounce at all, which the opposition failed to see the funny side of. Bullet got the ball swinging and caused Waltham X plenty of problems so that they never really got up with the required run rate. It was clearly Gromit Jnr's day as he followed his 34 with 3 wickets. I managed to force a c&b out of Patel, which negated the last threatening partnership.

Although all of Alex's bowling changes brought their rewards, we couldn't shift the last wicket for a deserved win.
Rosedale had decided to shut up shop rather than go for additional batting points but we'd need to look to ourselves for a few dropped catches that would probably have wrapped things up for us.
Still much to be optimistic about with our newbies.
