Match report (Sorry if I ramble, I haven’t done a winning one of these yet, might get a bit excitable)
As the advertisers of Guinness have been preaching to us for years, Good things come to those who wait. Much is the message coming from this week’s encounter for the Dev's. In keeping with the theme of our matches so far, we can’t plan anything, the old man went to the toss looking to bowl, a couple of minutes later and Thomas and Ranner were putting on the pads. However from here everything went well, the two smallest members of the team had to encounter a patch of the wicket back of the length which played very good chin music without the bowler knowing alot about it, and as if their heads weren’t in enough dangers, the bowlers took a leaf out of my book and a fair few beamers were on offer. No matter what was going on, Tom and Sam handled themselves exceptionally well, combating all the variation pace, and in Tom's case pain excellently throughout the first 15 overs, putting on a current colts record for the development team as they moved the score onto 63 until Thomas lost his concentration after taking one hit too many. Peter joined ranner and started timing the ball well, 4's became a bit more prominent as well as some excellent running. After drinks Sam still looked well set, but achieved his first jug avoidance by being skittled for 46, his annoyance was very obvious, never the less a brilliant innings and just the start we needed. Pearcey Paxman and I came and left, the less about those the better, my bloody pressure has only just come down. Leaving Gil(A.N.Other) and Steve to steady the ship, until old age caused both of Steve's hamstrings to go forcing a retirement on 20. Gil continued hitting the ball too many parts before unluckily being run out off the second last ball on 35. 222-8, considering we turned up with 8 players who considered bowling their strongpoint, it was well above expectations.

Buzzing full of confidence we hit the field, Joe starting with his customary consistent good line and length, something which I couldn’t match, with the run up being down then up then down into the crease again and my figure, balance wasn’t on offer, so two beamers later I was left to finish the last 5 balls of my over bowling dart age (you won’t be laughing so much later) Joe got rid of their useful looking opener and from there we couldn’t put a foot wrong. Pearcey took over from me, a lot more successful, his run up isn’t long enough to worry about the undulations, so he bowled with excellent control to take more wickets than he conceded runs, his 3-2 included bowling the other opener off his legs, and he was lucky fines aren’t in play on a Sunday, apologising for bowling a batsman just isn’t cricket. He also gave Ranner his first caught behind, not that it took Sam six attempts at juggling the cherry to finally pouch the opportunity Ollie wheeled away from the other end for 5 overs, again the control was very good however he was one bowler who experienced no luck unfortunately ending victimless when he deserved at least 1. Jonathan bowled well taking a wicket using variations in flight to trouble the batsmen, and Gill managed to bowl 2 good overs before giving up through back pains. Thomas came on, and inevitably with him on a Sunday wickets came, one thanks to a composed run out by Peter and the other by following 4 excellent balls the batsmen could barely play with a rank long hop that bounced twice, that one being the one that got his man. I came back at the end, but instead of the usual in swinging seam up nonsense I went for the Bertie Basset technique and just darted in and tossed up allsorts until the last 3 batsman all departed with the score on 57, a 164 run win, if we had record books that might be a contender for a bury record winning margin? You'll be pleased to hear I’ve nearly finished my last comment being, the rapid rise in confidence felt this week should lead into more success in the upcoming matches, things look bright for the Bury's new outfit very bright indeed.
