For the first time this season the skipper had his first choice seam attack to choose from and was awarded with a fine bowling and fielding performance from the home side to contain Bishop's Stortford to 166 all out in 50.3 overs.
Charlie Martin took the bowling honours with figures of 5-38 in 14.3 overs but was well supported by Gareth George with figures of 4-42 and Scott Bambling 1-55.
This left Herttingfordbury 167 to chase down in 49 hours and a fluent start by openers Darby and Bryden took the score to 52 without loss after 12 overs.
Bryden then departed and Palmer joined Darby at the crease and a took the score to 88 when Darby departed LBW for 39.
Wickets then started to fall at regular intervals and the scoring rate began to fall but Edward Palmer took the home side to within sight of victory before falling to a very sharp slip catch when trying to hit the winning boundary.
Gareth George and Cameron Conwell knocked off the remaining few runs required and took Hertingfordury to a well earned victory.
