Match report A well earned victory for Hertingfordbury 1st XI away at Totteridge & Millhillians on Saturday.
On a damp wicket Bury won the toss and had no hesitation in asking their hosts to bat first.
Wickets were taken at regular intervals on a wicket not condusive to fluent stoke play and also at times some cavalier batting from the home side led to their down fall. . Star performers for Bury with the ball were Dominic Spong who stepped up from the 2nd XI to put in a fine spell of gentle medium pace swing bowling and returned figures of 4-23 from 10.4 overs. Steve Rider bowled another tight spell and ended with fine figures of 3-29 from 14 overs.
Hertingfordbury opened their inning with stand in Captain for the day Neil Darby and 14 year old William Harley making his debut for the the 1st XI.
Youngest Harley looked very composed but was caught behind nibbling at a wide delivery.
Darby and George then came together and took the score along to 75 after 23 overs before Darby fell four shot of a half century.
After the fall of this wicket and another two for mot many runs the run rate fell dramatically as Hertingfordbury batsman dropped anchor and took the cautious approach to chasing down their modest target with the knowledge that they had 57 overs to reach their required target.
Patient and composed Batting from Jonathon George, Simon Harley and Cameron Conwell saw Hertingfordbury triumph with five overs to spare.
