Match report Bury secured their Third Division place for next season in a hard fought contest, once again interrupted by rain

Needing a win to secure their own Div 3 status - OAs wont the toss and invited Bury to bat. The wicket was damp, the boundaries enormous and the outfield lush, slowed further by intermittent light showers. All of this, combined with some very accurate OAs bowling, combined to restrict Bury to 139, compiled over 53 painstaking overs. Chief contributors were Gareth George - with 32and Charles Martin, who held together the middle order with a patient 27. All the batsmen grafted -- and whilst at tea Bury were not entirely satisfied with their 139 - there was a feeling that with conditions not likely to improve - it was a competitive total.

And so it proved. Starting with the old ball, the medium pace of Gareth George and Steve Riders controlled off spin soon began to pose problems. There was a break of ten overs for rain at the start of the OAs innings, leaving them with four an over to win on the resumption. Not usually an imposing rate - but with the conditions in effect - a different story. Such was the control that George and Rider exerted, none of the batsman was able to impose any authority - only Khan (21) reached double figures - the others perishing as the run rate began to increase. Rider eventually finished with 7/17 - a best ever for the Bury in League cricket.
