Match report A DAY OF WHATIF'S

2 dropped slip catches in Smurf's & Pearcey's opening overs cost us dearly as newly promoted Stevenage put us to the sword on a hot day with a lightning outfield. That was the last chance that their young skipper Whitworth gave us in his unbeaten 137. Poor fielding and my wicket keeping didn't assist our cause. Thankfully they don't allow for a byes column on the website. No.4 Justin tried to pull everything to square and we dutifully obliged him in his 79 runs. Bernard must have regretted not bringing himself on sooner, bagging 4 for 26 runs off 8 overs.
After 44 overs we thought they may have batted for too long and for too many runs. Unfortunately we were 4 wickets down within 10 overs, with William H's 12 being the top score in the Harley household that evening. Bondy & I steadied the ship, bringing up the first batting points. We then went in quick succession before Bullet Baxter & Smurf secured our remaining points, giving us 17 for our day's efforts. We tried to deny Stevenage their full whack but they managed to work their way through us with 3 overs to spare.
A proper gloveman and Farmer Kevin to tighten up the bowling may have helped but overall we must learn to concentrate in the field for a full 47 overs.
