Match report CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR by King Louis
Our first win of the season was a wicket away, but we ran out of overs against a St Albans team set on a draw.
Simon put us in and the innings looked sound with Bondy supported first by Sam Ranner and then Tom Harley both of whom batted with maturity and patience. After that the rest of the order stuck around long enough to help Matt secure all of our batting points before he fell one short of a well-deserved (when are they not?) ton. We then wasted valuable time getting over the 200 making an early declaration difficult on such a friendly track.

Honarary MotM once again goes to the teas with Jan Ives turning in a magnificent feast.

We hung on to the old ball which suited Smurf as he bowled with a lot more pace and control than of late, having Nizar in particular hopping around the crease.
Tom Harley wheeled away at the pavilion end and picked up early wickets. Kevin having been made to get rid of his fat controller's cap by Jan and now resplendent in a Bury one, came on for a typically tight spell of trundlage.
Falling way behind the run rate St Albans went further into their shell so Simon resorted to more frequent bowling changes and some Brearley-esque field placings. Bondy made up for his jug avoidance with a wicket off his first ball.
Rev Smith came on (fittingly) from the church end and managed to get through 3 batsman's defences, as they crawled up to 110 but gave up any ambition of further batting points with 5 overs to go. Credit should go to St Alban's very young players in the lower order who kept us out long enough to achieve the draw.
