Match report The attractive surroundings of St Eds couldn't compensate for a shocker of a wicket that any right-minded skipper wouldn't bat on first on. We lost the toss.
Ted & Fleabag coped manfully with the uneven bounce not knowing if the next ball would break their toe or their nose. What was more laughable was Knebworth's applause when a good length ball reared up past head height, as if the bowler had anything to do with it. Freeman played one ball superbly well when he had to convert a drive into a dab down through the slips. Things improved as the ball softened and settled down. Everyone (except the captain who should be dropped) then made solid contributions, especially John Bryden's 41, and Moss & Tim's 7th wicket stand of 35 which earned us all of our 6 batting points and frustrated the oppo, who thought they's nailed us for sub-150.
Bernard started brightly with the ball bagging the opener for a blob. The other other end proved more problematic as Tim, Matt and Will went for 90 from their collective 11 overs. One nightmare 18-run over from Bernard shocked him into bagging another 3 quick wickets. He then swapped ends to allow Moss the more favourable breeze. Despite the result now being beyond doubt and with two settled bats, Moss kept them tied up for 6 consecutive overs with great flight and confidence.
So, 10 points, which keeps us afloat but we're dropping further into the mire of the relegation zone. There's still plenty of time to turn things around if we don't want to be playing at Watford leisure centre next year.
