Match report A glorious summer's day. My season as the club's best tosser continued and I put Reed in, knowing we had the boys to chase a total.
Tony opened and for 10 overs had the ball swinging and seaming, bowling the opener after 4 overs. At the other end Kevin gave no width in a marathon 19-over stint and would happily have bowled through, despite the heat. Reverend Smudger bowled a miserly 8 over spell to add more pressure and we picked up wickets at key intervals to leave Reed at 102 for 5 at 36 overs. Hamps and Bryden came on at a difficult stage just as Reed were upping the tempo. Both struggled to keep the runs down and we lost some of the initiative. But the slow start meant we were only faced with a very gettable 196, which I'd have happily settled for at the start of play.
Yet another fantastic tea, this time Mrs Rymer's. No team has come close to the quality of ours this year.
Del Boy must have felt he had a point to prove after my suggestion to him that he bat down the order, given his poor run of scores. He opened with Tony (who was unlucky to play on) and never really looked troubled, hitting 16 fours and a six in an unbeaten 91, batting the entire 43 overs. Support came from Bryden, Dwyer & Harley, who all but saw us home before getting bowled in the last over with 2 needed off 5 balls. Smurf was next and straight drove his 2nd delivery for four and us to a well deserved win.
