Match report Anyone who remembers the giant metal warrior in Jason and the Argonauts will be familiar with the noise and mobility on display as we creaked onto the field for our traditional curtain raiser. Only Gronert spoiled the effect, looking vaguely fit and healthy. He then raised the spectre of peaking too early with a very convincing 81, threatening the gatehouse and a few churchgoers in the process. The rest of us 'chose' to keep our powder dry for the league with some more modest batting, Prezzo's powder being the dryest of all.
Bowling honours were shared around. Stone's trundling benefitted from finding 3 fielders who could catch at this early stage of the season. New boys, Charles 'no nickname yet' Martin pitched in at a lively pace to keep the strike bowler slots in the 1's open for a while, and John Bryden's wicket-taking ball swung, seamed and pointed the batsmen to the pavilion before ripping out his stump, so more promise there. 5 caught and 5 bowled suggests we may be doing something right. The weather forecast looks lousy for next weekend, allowing 2 weeks for us to stop aching. KotS
