Reed III v Hertingfordbury CC 2nd XI on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 1.30
Hertingfordbury CC Won by 100 runs

Match report REED BANG TO RIGHTS (By King Louis): A weekend of unusually high availability left 8 people missing out, and the Scoobies with their strongest line up of the season (even after Simon had to pull out).
Although confident of chasing, we weren't too disappointed to lose the toss and be inserted on a good-looking track (and a sweltering day).
Despite Mells doing his best to offer gully some catching practice off his first ball, he and Dr Derek were looking untroubled by a lively, if inconsistent opening attack. They made 43 before Del was foxed by a very good ball that seamed off the pitch and removed his off peg. Mells went soon after to the deceptively nippy Allsop. Geoff, more used this year to knocking off the winning runs, came in after only 15 overs to join Jonathatan "Reggie" George. They added another 68, by which time the life and self-belief seemed to have drained from Reed. Tumble replaced Geoff and piled on the misery with a quick 43, whilst Reggie finished the 47th over unbeaten on 56.

After a very nice tea, TC got stuck in and bowled their young opener but then lost his line a little before recovering to complete a good opening spell. Kevin was having no luck at the other end, but despite going for two 6s returned his usually miserly figures. After my first 3 lousy overs I'd have had no complaints if Alex had decided it wasn't my day. He kept the faith and I managed to induce two mis-timed drives, presenting TC & Alex with high catches and bowling Lovegrove first ball. Fleabag ran out the luckless Kane without facing a ball and Reggie capped a good day at the office with 3 scalps of his own.
With thunder and rain looming Alex came on, and their skipper duly obliged by looping a mistimed pull to Dwyer. Even more obliging was their last man Martin who faced a ball, went walkabout whilst it was still in Mell's gloves and was embarrasingly stumped.
A solid performance to set us up nicely for table toppers Pirton next week.
