Match report HARLEY & IBROPROFEN COMBINE TO ROAST ROSEDALE. (by King Louis)
As I sit on Sunday morning listening to the final knockings of England at Headingley I can at least write happily of a magnificent performance by the Scoobies against fellow promo hopefuls Waltham X.
Going on recent years we expected a tough time today, but our hopes were raised by their missing 3 players at 1.30.
However tight bowling by veteran Byatt, coupled with a lush outfield and moist wicket, limited us to barely 1 an over in the first 6. Tumble then failed to get the benefit of any doubt to a high-looking lbw appeal (Kevin's never liked left-handers, whoever they play for). Any suggestion that the openers had made heavy weather of it were dispelled after Simon came in and the runs crawled to 15 off 13 overs.
Maybe due to rapidly drying wicket under the warm sun, or the shine coming off the ball, a turning point then came when the economical Kangovan shed 13 runs and the pressure valve was released.
Mells was able to anchor whilst Simon started getting just reward for his well timed fours across the outfield, which was now speeding up. At drinks we'd accelerated to 3 an over.
Andrew was bowled in the 31st over and Geoff joined Simon who was now dictating to the change bowlers and finding the boundary at will.
The wheels fell off Rosedale's attack when nearly 100 runs came from the last 10 overs. Smurf should take some credit when umpiring for calling one of their bowlers for throwing on 5 occasions, when many older players would have avoided the controversy. To credit Rosedale they didn't make much of a fuss, acknowledging the problem.
We finished on 230, when at one point 150 might have seemed par, and Simon's magnificent knock had brought 140 unbeaten runs with 20 boundaries (4s only of course, nothing as crude as a 6).

In reply, for the 2nd week, all of Alex's bowling changes brought success. Kevin and I drew the sting from the openers, bagging a wicket each and keeping the runs down, before games master Spong and Mozzer took over. Dom struck early when no.3 Humphries hit a full blooded pull to square, only for Kevin to use his full body to absorb the impact and take a catch. Moss found his rhythm quickly and had Hayden caught at gully by Geoff (I'm saying nothing).
A dangerous 5th wicket partnership was then formed, but we still had runs to play with and wanted to keep them interested. Moss enjoyed a double wicket maiden to remove the classy looking no.5 and no.7 three balls later.
Reverend Smith had the hard hitting Patel caught behind and we were now cruising, needing only 9 wickets.
Smurf had a go from the pavilion end but was denied a c&b when he only got his little finger to the ball, dislocating it in the process. Luckily Bernard was on hand to offer no sympathy whatsoever and yank the finger back into place.
Smurf bravely came back to finish his over, albeit in some discomfort.

Proceedings were wrapped up by Dom, bowling Byatt for 0.

Another excellent team performance keeping promotion hopes alive.
